Scripps College Board of Trustees Announces Extension of Amy Marcus-Newhall’s Presidency

Scripps College President Amy Marcus-Newhall

Dear Scripps Community Members,

It is my pleasure to announce that the Scripps College Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to extend President Amy Marcus-Newhall’s contract through June 2028. My fellow Trustees and I are thrilled that the College will continue to benefit from her strong leadership through our Centennial year.

Over more than 30 years, President Marcus-Newhall has consistently demonstrated her dedication to Scripps College, her ability to build and manage an expert leadership team, and her focus on the College’s success. Since her appointment in April 2023, President Marcus-Newhall has sustained progress and momentum on top strategic priorities, including campus development and enhancement, financial stewardship and management, and revitalization of relationships with Scripps community members. Key accomplishments during her tenure include: completing construction of The Nucleus science center, purchasing the East 10th Street Building from CGU, and securing more than $4 million in support of the Scripps Access Initiative.

The Board of Trustees is grateful that President Marcus-Newhall has committed to serve a five-year term, which aligns with the average tenure of college presidencies nationally. As Board Chair, I look forward to maintaining an effective partnership with President Marcus-Newhall as we navigate the landscape of higher education today and enable the delivery of the Scripps mission for current and future students.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Marcus-Newhall for her exceptional leadership of Scripps College!

Sincerely,

Laura Hockett’ 85
Board Chair
