Spotlight on Staff: Marina Muncan, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags and Athenas Cross-Country Coach
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Stags and Athenas cross-country programs recently welcomed Marina Muncan as their new head coach. Muncan comes to Claremont with over 14 years of coaching experience, most recently as the coach for women’s distance runners at Rutgers University for the last five years. Muncan also competed for the Serbian national team in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and was a finalist at the 2012 European Championships.

Scripps and Pomona Colleges Host Virtual Fall Dance Concert
In yet another change compelled by the COVID-19 pandemic, Scripps and Pomona Colleges presented their annual “In the Works” fall dance concert online from December 4–5, 2020. Named for its original works-in-progress of student choreography, the recital showcased a variety of contemporary dance styles performed in a series of unusual and exciting films produced by the students and shared via livestream.

5C Dance Marathon, Led by Elizabeth Howell-Egan ’22, Raises Thousands for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
5C Dance Marathon, The Claremont Colleges’ chapter of the nationwide Miracle Network Dance Marathon, raised $13,578 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) during its first year as a chapter. The Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a collective of college, university, and high school programs that raise funds and awareness for local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

Chemistry Cookbook Serves Up Global Food and Global Good
In 2019, the Keck Science Chemistry Club gave new meaning to the phrase “experimental cooking” with their Chemistry Charity Cookbook. This cookbook was compiled by the members of the club under the supervision of Associate Professor of Chemistry Anna Wenzel, who started the club during her first year as a faculty advisor.

Office of Black Student Affairs Celebrates 50 Years
The 2019-2020 academic year marks the 50th anniversary of the Office of Black Student Affairs (OBSA), the cultural center of The Claremont Colleges that supports students of African descent by providing opportunities for self-exploration, learning, and growth as well as affirming multiple identities that intersect with experiences of Blackness, including race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender identity and expression, and spirituality.

Spotlight on Students: Perrin York ’19 Wins Outstanding Soloist Award at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella
Standing on stage in front of an audience of 3,000 at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), Perrin York ’19 “didn’t know if I was crying or wanted to cry.” She had just been awarded Outstanding Soloist for her rendition of “Greedy” by Ariana Grande. “At that moment, I felt so humbled and couldn’t understand the magnitude of the award,” she recalls.
