Transferring to Scripps was one of the best choices I have made in my college career. Of course, it came with challenges, but ultimately, the process led to so much joy, laughter, friendship, and love (and an extra semester of fun with the amazing community I have met!). I am so grateful for the connections I’ve made, experiences I’ve had, and opportunities I’ve been granted (but most importantly the people I’ve met <3 (there are too many to shout out here)). For my final blog post as an Admissions Ambassador, I’ve decided to write mini love letters to the simple pleasures of being a Scripps student. Hopefully, something here will spark interest in the Scripps experience.
Dear Hoch Breakfast Team,
You’ve taught me how to love breakfast, and you were the reason I got excited to get out of bed every morning. You spoiled us with crepes on Tuesdays/Thursdays and omelets every other day. Specifically, to Virgina, for your morning greetings and making the best smoothies out there. You can’t even begin to understand how much I’ll miss you,
Dear Seal Court,
You create space for community. You make me feel supported by your ground, cared for by your life, and full by your conversation. I hope we dance together soon,
Dear SAS,
You’re the powerhouse of this cell, and you do so much unseen work. Thank you for organizing such great events, fighting for the student voice, and keeping us together,
Dear Bike Racks,
You are a reliable friend, hanging out at every building and corner, and are always there to lend a helpful hand to Cindy (my scooter),
Dear Library, Honnold Side Windows,
You kept my breaks from studying bright, some long hours warm, and my energy up during big readings or hard essays,
Dear Motley,
You never failed to have a friendly face or impactful event. You taught me advocacy, political protest, care, and community building. This space needs your presence,
Dear Scripps Facilities, Custodial, and Care Teams,
I cannot thank you enough. Your care and generosity are too kind. Your smiles, warm greetings, and love for us messy college students are infectious. Thank you for everything you do,
Dear Browning Garden Hallway and Communal Bathroom,
One of my firsts here at Scripps. Now when I walk down your space, I am reminded of funny run ins, late night talks, and an appreciation for those who welcomed me to this place. The best transfer hallway,
Dear Intramural Teams,
We never won a game, but the silliness I felt engaging with you was unmatched. What a goofy way to spend the wee hours of the night. I had a blast,
Dear Richardson,
I can forever close my eyes and know where I am with you. You’ve trusted me, lifted me, and held me. I will forever move differently because of you,
Dear Professors,
I have changed so much as a person because of you. You’ve taught me how to listen, how to lead, how to analyze, and how to love in a crazy world. Thank you,
Dear Margaret Fowler Garden,
You host my favorite tradition ever at Scripps,
Dear Village Farmers Market,
You changed the way I do soap, all natural and handmade. Your samples brought sweetness into my life and the perfect Sunday morning stroll,
Dear Scripps Pool,
We had some silly encounters, and you kept me afloat every semester. I’ll miss our early mornings and sunny afternoons together,
Dear Students,
I am forever in awe of you,
Dear Admissions Team,
Thank you for continuously choosing me. I’ve loved working for this office, learning from you all, and most importantly, I am extremely grateful to have been granted the privilege of being a Scripps student,
Dawn
