Say hi to Isabel!

Hi everyone! My name is Isabel, and I am a junior from Fullerton, California. I am dual majoring in Psychology and Economics. Aside from working at the admissions office, I have worked for the study abroad (SAGE) office for two years and this last semester, I became a tutor for Economics. I am also a CMS athlete—I play water polo! I am also a member of Blend, an affinity club for students who identify as mixed race. While on campus, I love taking a morning swim at Tiernan, studying outside (the weather is almost always super nice!) and having dinner with my friends.

Before I even thought about college, I was introduced to the consortium—my eldest brother went to Harvey Mudd, and my other older brother just graduated from Claremont McKenna! By visiting them on campus and hearing about their classes and experiences I knew that a small liberal arts college was for me. The next step was figuring out which one! I remember touring colleges with my mom before my senior year. Scripps was one of the last colleges I toured, but it was the first one I felt like I could call home. After I was accepted, I spent a day on campus with my team, and I loved the student athlete life—the classes, going to practice, my first meal at Malott (which was, by the way, delicious). From there, it only took me a couple days to commit, and by the time admitted student’s day came around, I was feeling super confident in my choice.

I have never regretted my choice. Even though my adjustment to college life was rocky (which is totally okay—it’s a big change!), I have felt seen and supported every day as a Scripps student. Having that support—from my team, from my friends, from my professors, from faculty—has allowed me to grow like I never thought possible.

Scripps has such a unique community—it is so supportive, lacks competitiveness and is super empowering. I feel so lucky to be a part of such an amazing group of people. I will always be grateful for the upperclassmen who took time to listen and advise me when I was a scared freshman, and for my friends who pushed me out of my shell and allowed me to experience such fantastic things. I am very excited for our return to campus but in the meantime, I am excited to share my thoughts experiences on this blog!

There is so much that I have to share about Scripps! Feel free to reach out with questions at [email protected]
