Slocum Award for Book Collecting: Eleven Scripps Seniors on Life Between the Covers

This spring’s Slocum Award participants will discuss their passion and enthusiasm for books in a panel discussion at the Tuesday Noon Academy. Presented annually since 1936, the Slocum Award for Student Libraries recognizes
those Scripps seniors whose love for books and collecting has inspired them to build collections on their favorite subjects. On exhibit at Denison Library through May 12, 2012, the individual collections reflect a lively variety
of collecting interests. The collections focus on themes as diverse as ‘Disney Parks and Walt Disney’ to ‘Latin translations of contemporary books’ along with ‘texts of travelers’ and ‘illustrated books’. Novels on ‘women who
wore crowns and ran countries’ fill the case next to writing on ‘gastronomy and food politics’. Plus, there is much, much more. Join these dedicated bibliophiles for a glimpse into worlds between covers.
