“…make no mistake: Nancy Pelosi is the most powerful woman in American politics…” — Christian Science Monitor
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is a trailblazer. The first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, Leader Pelosi is also the highest-ranking female politician in American history to date. She has been an outspoken and passionate advocate for women’s leadership in government, where she has led House Democrats for more than a dozen years and represented San Francisco, California’s 12th District, for nearly three decades. In 2013, Pelosi was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Seneca Falls, the birthplace of the American women’s rights movement. As the 2016 election season kicks into high gear, Leader Pelosi visits Scripps, for a conversation with Scripps Assistant Professor of Politics, Vanessa Tyson, to share her perspective on increasing the participation of women in our political process and empowering women to achieve greater economic security.
