In September, Professor Anne Harley co-presented on the art songs of Los Angeles African American composer Harold Bruce Forsythe (1908-76) at the national conference of the College Music Society. In October, at Manhattan School of Music, she performed in the New York premiere of Scripps alumna Marjorie Merryman’s The Miracles of Thecla, one of several NEA commissions she led in the last 5 years. In another October concert at Columbia University, she gave the world premiere of A message from the mangroves by Yii Kah Hoe, along with other new music commissioned for the project that she directs, Voices of the Pearl (www.voicesofthepearl.org).
