Queer-ish (16 October 2023)—Beginning October 28, Scripps College’s Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery will present “Queer-ish: Photography and the LGBTQ+ Imaginary.” Curated by 2017 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, interdisciplinary artist and Scripps College Fletcher Jones Chair in Art Ken Gonzales-Day, the exhibition showcases almost 100 historic vernacular photographs highlighting moments of same-sex affection, as well as more than 40 contemporary photographs, primarily by LGBTQ+ artists.

Curated by John G. Hampton and Lillian O’Brien Davis Vancouver, B.C. Sept. 9, 2023 – Feb. 4, 2024 Conceptions of White is an exhibition offering context and nuanced perspectives that help viewers grapple with contemporary configurations of White identity. The exhibition examines the origins, travel and present reality of “Whiteness” as a concept and a racial invention that classifies degrees of civility/humanity.

Long Story Short presents artworks dating from the 1970s to the present day, drawn from MOCA’s world-renowned, ever-growing collection of more than 7,500 objects. It demonstrates the myriad ways contemporary artists have addressed aesthetic, political, and philosophical concerns in the last fifty years.
