With the return of in-person instruction, Reunion, and even a dual Commencement this May, Scripps College has a lot to celebrate this year. In support of our current students and those yet to come as we look to a promising future, the College invites its community to make a gift on April 13, 2022 during its annual Day of Giving 24-hour digital fundraiser.
Those who contribute on Day of Giving might not know just how important their generosity is, says Associate Vice President for Philanthropy Enrique Gonzalez-Salgado. In the last two years especially, their donations to The Scripps Fund, the primary operational fund that forms the backbone of student resources, have helped fill significant funding gaps and budget cuts brought on by COVID-19. In 2021, donors raised more than $100,000 in direct support for Scripps students.
Now, after the College community being apart for nearly two years apart, new resources are needed as students find their social, emotional, and academic footing as the pandemic wanes.
“Scripps students are powerhouses. Amid the toughest challenges, they hold themselves to the highest academic standards while still creating an atmosphere of empathy over competition with one another,” says Gonzalez-Salgado. “We’re encouraging our alums, parents past and present, and friends of the College to support them as they now work hard to navigate their studies and ambitions in a world that looks very different than it did prior to 2019.”
Supporting the highest areas of need on Day of Giving
Currently, the highest areas of need include support of The Scripps Fund, scholarships, mental health and wellness, and racial justice and equity. Together with Scripps’ rigorous liberal arts curriculum, these areas meaningfully impact each student, and help the College create an educational experience that takes the needs of their whole person—mind, body, and spirit—into account.
Day of Giving will be hosted online via the College’s campaign website. Donors can take advantage of easier ways to give—including through Paypal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Venmo—and can even create their own matching gifts and fundraising challenges to motivate their fellow alums or parents to give.
“The Scripps community has proven time and time again to be one that prides itself on how it takes care of one another,” says Gonzalez-Salgado. “No matter how you contribute on April 13, know that every single student will benefit from your generosity.”
