katherine-howard-miller-wingOn October 10, 2014, members of the Scripps community gathered to dedicate the Katharine Howard Miller ’55 Wing of the Bette Cree Edwards ’49 Humanities Building. The wing features 17 new faculty offices with collaborative spaces designed to promote innovative teaching, research, and leadership. Her husband, the late Frank Miller (CMC ’53) completed Kathy’s term as a trustee, became an emeritus trustee, and with his final gift, looked for a way to honor his beloved wife’s memory and to support the College to which they were both so dedicated.

Frank made the generous gift of $2 million to name the wing in Kathy’s memory. The gift provided significant early support to We Want More: The Campaign for Scripps College. It was augmented by the generous support of trustee and Scripps College Campaign Chair Nancy Katayama ’77 and gifts from the Fletcher Jones Foundation and the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation.

“My parents’ love for Scripps was surpassed only by their love for each other and their family. They were both champions of a liberal arts education, particularly at Scripps. My father was proud to honor my mother and the College by helping to build the Katharine Howard Miller ’55 faculty office wing. They would both be delighted to know this legacy gift will positively impact the work of Scripps faculty members for years to come.”
