Scripps College, a historically women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for the position of part-time Lecturer of Music to teach 1.0 course units (6 hours) of applied voice each semester in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, in both private and group lesson formats.
Requirements of the position include teaching 6 hours of voice lessons per week (in a mix of individual lesson format and in small groups of 4-6 students), participating in and helping to administer the auditions and juries of voice students each semester, and facilitating voice students’ collaboration on voice area and music department concerts and special projects. A Master of Music degree and ability to teach beginning through advanced voice students in both bel canto and American Musical Theatre (AMT) styles are required; College teaching experience, especially experience guiding tenors, baritones and basses, and a DMA are preferred. Salary is $8,450–$9,400 per semester depending on qualifications. There is possibility of renewal of position in successive years.
Scripps College, a member of the Claremont Colleges, provides instruction in music to both majors and non-majors in a highly challenging liberal arts setting. Students from all other colleges in the Claremont Consortium (including Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Pitzer Colleges) also enroll in music courses at Scripps College, including those courses in applied voice. The Department of Music consists of four full-time faculty and a number of part-time members of the Scripps College faculty in theory, musicology, ethnomusicology, and performance. In addition, two full-time faculty from the Joint Music Program, who are responsible for the choir and orchestra ensembles, are fully integrated into the curriculum and programing with the Scripps music faculty.
