The Laspa Center for Leadership distributes grant funding annually to support opportunities that demonstrate leadership in action. These grants and awards are fundamentally intended to promote leadership development through experiential learning.
All eligible opportunities must clearly align with the mission of the Laspa Center for Leadership and distinguish themselves according to the Center’s core values of leadership, creativity, integrity, and service. Successful proposals will also address one or more of the Center’s leadership competencies: mindfulness, strategic thinking, social skills, empathy, organizational dynamics, and effective management. Also visit the associate dean of faculty’s dedicated webpage for an expanded list of available grants and awards.
Scripps College believes that a Scripps education is enhanced by direct engagement with other cultures. As with the College’s long-standing policy on travel related to study abroad during the academic year, Scripps has used the concept of informed consent to have students acknowledge the risk involved with all travel, including travel for independent summer projects conducted inside the United States. The College’s responsibility in this is to provide guidance on the many factors to be considered in the voluntary decision to conduct independent research or complete an internship in other locations. The paperwork that students complete to accept an award identifies multiple factors that students must consider in their choice to participate. The ultimate decision about level of risk that an individual can comfortably accept is left to the student, in consultation with the family and other relevant individuals such as health professionals.
