Cándida Jáquez, associate professor of music, took part in a 2022 Sunlit Residency, where she worked on an article about an all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Mujer 2000. “I think for many of us in academia who are heavily involved with justice, equity, and diversity issues . . . we often are scrambling for time to really have the space to sit down and do something like writing because . . . we’re very committed to a number of issues and projects that require a great deal of time,” Jáquez said.
