The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York has acquired The Wonder Gaze (St. James Park) by Ken Gonzales-Day, Fletcher Jones Chair in Art and professor of art, for its permanent collection. The work depicts the lynching of Thomas Thurmond and John Holmes in St. James Park in San Jose, California, in 1933, and is part of Gonzales-Day’s ongoing Erased Lynchings series, which began with a focus on the history of lynching in California.
