Professor Emerita Samella Lewis’ Work Showcased at Wright Museum of African American History and Stella Jones Gallery
Scripps College Professor Emerita of Art Samella Lewis, who was the first tenured AfricanAmerican professor at The Claremont Colleges and whose work has influenced African American art and culture for decades, headlines a major exhibit at the Museum of African American History in Detroit through September 18, 2016. Samella Lewis: An American Art Icon honors the prolific and still active artist and her multiple roles as art historian, educator, scholar, author, publisher, filmmaker, museum founder, art administrator, curator, gallerist, art collector, wife, mother, and more. In October 2016, Dr. Lewis will open an exhibition and new works at Stella Jones Gallery in New Orleans.
