As Scripps gears up for its centennial celebration, submissions are now open for the College’s highest level of recognition, the Ellen Browning Scripps (EBS) Medal.
The EBS Medal is awarded to a woman whose pioneering accomplishments have made a significant and positive difference in opportunities for other women. Scripps invites the community to nominate a dynamic, compelling, and passionate person who is a current leader or influencer in her field and whose achievements align with the College’s mission.
The award is named after reporter, suffragist, and founder of Scripps College, Ellen Browning Scripps, whose mission was to develop students who can “live more confidently, courageously, and hopefully.” An EBS Medal recipient will embody the moral, ethical, and humanitarian standards exemplified by Scripps.
Previous EBS Medal awardees include former first lady and US secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, former US Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and former US Congresswoman Gabby Giffords ’93.
“We live in a time with a very short memory,” Clinton said in her acceptance speech at Scripps College in 1994. “All too often we forget the sacrifices, the examples, of women like Ms. Scripps, who were there long before we were. It’s good for us to stop and remember.”
Nominations will be open through March 24, 2025, and the top 10 nominees will be announced during Reunion Weekend, May 2-4, 2025. Submit your nominee here.
