The CMS Athenas soccer team took the SCIAC title on Saturday, November 7 with a near perfect record of 12 conference wins, zero losses, and two ties. The Athenas entered the final game as the number one seed and played on home territory, having won hosting privileges from a previous game. The final game against Occidental College ended in a close score of 1-0 and granted the Athenas their third SCIAC title. With eight consecutive wins, the Athenas wrapped up the season with a final standing of 15-2-2.
CMS was one of the top two teams this season in a pool of eight SCIAC participating schools to go to finals. With 27 players, including six Scripps College students, the team has made great strides since 2002, when it first qualified for the NCAA championships. As of November 8, the CMS team is also ranked second in the NCAA division III West region standings.
The Athenas play against UC Santa Cruz in the first round of the championship games on Saturday, November 14.
