The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recognizes Brooklyn Robinson, a junior at Scripps College, as a talented scholar-athlete.
“It was nice to find out I had won the award!” she says. “Last spring was my first season actually playing for [Claremont-Mudd-Scripps] because I was injured the year before. Academically, it turned out to be my best semester of college so far. I didn’t see the announcement that I’d been awarded until Scripps tweeted about it.”
Established at the National Collegiate Women’s Softball Championships in 1983, NFCA is a professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches. Among many other goals, part of their mission is to foster the development of quality leadership for fastpitch softball programs, and to promote cooperative efforts with other professional organizations interested in girls and women’s athletics. Women are awarded when they show academic excellence while maintaining their sports in-season.
Brooklyn says being a CMS Athena has definitely impacted her experience as a student. While athletics have not necessarily impacted her grades, she says they have taught her the importance of time management – a skill she has definitely mastered.
