CMS Round-up: Athenas Soccer

CMS Athenas Soccer

Keri Sanchez has good reason to be named SCIAC Coach of the Year for her work with the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Athenas – and it starts with her 10-4 record.

Having secured the best conference record since 2009, women’s soccer is poised to return in fall 2015 stronger and faster than ever. We reached out to Scripps teammates to see why they love their sport, and this is what they told us:

Major: Environmental analysis

“I’ve been playing soccer since I was four years old, when I realized being a goalkeeper brought glory without requiring any fitness base. It’s exciting to represent Scripps; I’ve realized the ways in which I can remain a reliable friend and teammate throughout all the ups and downs of season.

“I’ve learned so much about determination, passion, and leaving everything on the field, and I’m excited CMS is making an effort to ensure Scripps athletes feel supported and represented in the program.”

Hometown: San Mateo, California
Major: Anthropology

“I have always been a hardworking and competitive person, and I think that becomes very visible as a student-athlete. It hasn’t always been easy trying to balance both schoolwork and soccer, but I’m not willing to give up on either.”

Wren Osler

Major: Undecided

“Home games under the lights are really fun – lots of friends and supporters come out to watch. Being an athlete at Scripps has allowed me to meet students at the other campuses and has made me more aware of the greater 5C community.”
