Desert Sun has released an image of the upcoming Desert X Exhibition installation from award-winning sculptor and painter Alison Saar ’78. Saar joins 10 other featured artists who will showcase their work during Desert X 2025, an international art exhibition taking place across the Coachella Valley.
“No matter who you are or where you live in the Coachella Valley…wherever you’re coming from, you have access,” said Manuel Perez, Supervisor V of Riverside County’s Fourth District during the exhibition preview. Emphasizing that not all can afford to visit museums, Manuel applauded Desert X for making the exhibition free for all attendees.
Saar’s work, “Soul Service Station,” is currently on view in Desert Hot Springs. Visitors can interact with the piece through a conch shell attached to a gas pump to hear Saar herself recite a poem. The artist’s work was recently recognized during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, with Saar’s public sculpture commission now permanently on display in Paris’s Champs-Élyseés.
