The Daily Beast recently quoted Gabby Giffords ’93 in her critique of Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance’s 2021 remarks about the country being run by “childless cat ladies…miserable at their own lives.” Vance has since echoed those remarks in an interview on Fox News, saying the left has become explicitly anti-child and anti-family under presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s policies.
With Giffords’ husband, US Senator Mark Kelly, emerging as a running mate for Harris, the former Congresswoman took to X to note her family’s grief about ending their IVF journey after she survived a 2011 assassination attempt.
“Vice President Kamala Harris is a proud mom of two remarkable stepchildren—and so am I. @CaptMarkKelly and I were trying to have a baby through IVF before I was shot and that dream was stolen from us. To suggest we are somehow lesser is disgraceful.”
