Douglas Goodwin, Fletcher Jones Scholar in Computation and assistant professor in media studies, contributed an article for The Conversation on April 1 about the best methods for photographing a solar eclipse (such as the upcoming total eclipse on April 8) with a smartphone. “While smartphone cameras can’t take a great picture of a solar eclipse itself, you can still create a memorable record of the moment with your smartphone,” he writes, also cautioning people to wear sunglasses and use a lens filter in order to avoid damage to their eyes and phones.
