The Los Angeles Times and other outlets have reported that Ruth Ashton Taylor ’43, a trailblazer for women in broadcasting, passed away at the age of 101 on January 11, 2024. An alum of Scripps College and Columbia University, Taylor was one of the first first female television newscasters in the United States; she became the West Coast’s first ever female television reporter in 1951. In recognition of her historic career, Taylor was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Emmy in 1982 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990.
