Lydia Sohn ’05 Speaks with Claremont Courier on Debut Novel

Senior pastor of  Walnut United Methodist Church and Scripps alum Lydia Sohn ’05 spoke with The Claremont Courier about her debut novel, Here: A Spirituality of Staying in a Culture of Leaving.

The book of spiritual reflection, contemplative theology, and personal memoir pushes back on the cultural message of constant reinvention.

“When we leave to escape a difficult situation or because we’re bored, ultimately what happens is that the same kind of emotions come up as soon as we get to the next place, right?” Sohn told the Courier. “Like the same feeling of [fear of missing out] and restlessness and boredom will always come up.”

A book launch and signing with Sohn will take place at Claremont United Methodist Church on March 1 at 2 p.m. You can find more details and RSVP here. Read the full interview to learn more about Sohn’s ministry work and her process of writing the book.
