5C Dance Marathon, The Claremont Colleges’ chapter of the nationwide Miracle Network Dance Marathon, raised $13,578 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) during its first year as a chapter. The Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a collective of college, university, and high school programs that raise funds and awareness for local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. 5C Dance Marathon’s donation will support CHLA’s mission of providing families with healthcare regardless of insurance status.
Elizabeth Howell-Egan ’22 led the fundraising efforts across the 5Cs, which included events such as slip-and-slide kickball, bake sales at rivalry games, and hosting tables at campus dining halls. Their efforts culminated in an on-campus dance marathon where students met patients’ families from CHLA and revealed their final fundraising total, which exceeded the amount typically raised by chapters in their first year.
“Usually first-year programs raise about $5,000, so we were absolutely thrilled at how our hard work paid off,” Howell-Egan said. “We would not have been able to raise as much as we did without the over 100 people who committed to fundraise. We are so grateful for the work of our peers, especially as a first-year program.”
