The Los Angeles Times spoke with former California State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson ’71 about the effect of Senate Bill 826, which requires publicly-traded companies in California to diversify their boardrooms. As a state senator, Jackson championed the bill, which was signed into law in 2018; the legislation is now having a ripple effect on boardrooms across the country, the Times reports. “We weren’t able to get companies there using reason and data,” Jackson said. “So we required they get there. California has a history of leading the nation in a variety of areas, and this was a first.”
