Lynne Thompson ’72, poet laureate of Los Angeles and chair of the Scripps Board of Trustees, discussed National Poetry Month with Spectrum 1, reciting her poem “Red Jasper” outside the Central Library. Thompson said her role as poet laureate is to be “the literary ambassador for the city, to bring as much poetry as I can to as many people as I can in the city, particularly those who might not ordinarily have an opportunity to be exposed to poetry.” She noted that she “represent[s] Los Angeles on a larger scale,” adding “this is where we are when it comes to poetry—we are very strong in this city, and I am one representative of that.”
