In the Media: New York Times Remembers Idelle Weber ’54

The New York Times remembered painter, collagist, and sculptor Idelle Weber ’54, who passed away on March 23 in Los Angeles. Weber was one of the few women artists involved in the Pop Art movement, and her artwork, which examined the intersection of consumerism and social roles, was acquired by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. (MOMA visitors who saw her work on display last fall were reminded of Mad Men’s opening credits.) In the 1990s and 2000s, Weber’s subject matter shifted to nature, and she became known for her realistic depictions of gardens and other landscapes, which spanned more than 500 paintings.
