The Washington Post and CBS each profiled Gabby Giffords ’93’s political career and activism, highlighting her ongoing recovery after a 2011 assassination attempt, her marriage to former astronaut and Senator Mark Kelly, and her work with her gun control advocacy organization. Giffords told the Post that the December 2012 Sandy Hook shooting compelled her to take action: “Even though I wasn’t able to speak more than a few words at a time, still I knew I had to use my voice to fight for change,” she wrote. “That day, I said, ‘Enough is enough.'”
Giffords recently received the Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden, and a documentary about her life and work, Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down, will premiere later this month.
