Brad and Mary Anne Blaine Faculty Lecture: David C. Lloyd

As part of the Brad and Mary Anne Blaine Faculty Lecture Series, Scripps College is pleased to present David C. Lloyd, Hartley Burr Alexander Professor in the Humanities and director of the Humanities Institute, who will speak on "The Role of the Humanities in the 21st Century" on Thursday, February 7, at noon in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons.

Professor Lloyd’s areas of expertise are cultural and colonial studies; he has also written several definitive works on Irish poet James Clarence Mangan. Lloyd, who joined the Scripps faculty in 1998, earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate from Cambridge University and previously taught at such prestigious universities as Cambridge and University of California, Berkley, among others.

Former Scripps professor of history and current trustee Brad Blaine, along with his wife, Mary Anne, are proud to sponsor this lecture. The Blaines have generously underwritten a lecture series featuring outstanding Scripps faculty to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Scripps College. This lecture and all others in the series are free and open to the public.
