As part of the Brad and Mary Anne Blaine Faculty Lecture Series, Scripps College is pleased to present the Con Gioia Early Music Ensemble in concert at 8 pm on Friday, October 26th in Balch Auditorium, 1030 Columbia Avenue in Claremont. Under the direction of Con Gioia’s founder, harpsichordist Preethi de Silva, the Ensemble will perform a program of Bach’s Harpsichord Concertos on period instruments.
Professor of Music at Scripps College, Preethi de Silva is an internationally known harpsichordist and forte pianist who founded Con Gioia in 1981. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Yale University. This concert will also feature harpsichordists Eric Kinsley, Stephan Moss and Robert Zappulla, who will be joined by Con Gioia’s string ensemble, led by Gregory Maldonado, and other early music specialists on period instruments.
Former Scripps Professor of History and current Trustee Brad Blaine, along with his wife Mary Anne, are proud to sponsor this concert. The Blaines have generously underwritten a lecture series featuring outstanding Scripps faculty to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Scripps College. This concert and all other lectures in the series are free and open to the public.
