Alex Szabo, founder of the The Green Office, will present a special lunch talk, “Greening Your Office 101” on Thursday, April 24, at noon in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons, Scripps College. The event is free and open to the public.
Alex Szabo founded TheGreenOffice.com in 2005 after work as a sustainability consultant and educator. The company works to leverage the purchasing power of values-based consumers in order to speed the transition to sustainability in the office products industry. By offering a full selection of socially and environmentally responsible office products at competitive prices, TheGreenOffice.com empowers individuals and organizations to align their values with action.
Prior to his work with TheGreenOffice.com, Szabo oversaw the campus sustainability program at New College of California and helped develop a variety of green business ventures, including a community-supported agriculture program and a line of sustainably harvested redwood furniture. As an educator at both Claremont High (Claremont, CA) and Leadership High School (a charter school in San Francisco), Szabo designed and implemented an equity pedagogy that linked concepts of sustainability and social justice for minority and underprivileged students.
Szabo draws from systems theory and constructivism to identify practical solutions where the interests of people, planet, and profit are maximized. He holds an MBA in sustainable enterprise from New College of California, a master’s degree in education from Claremont Graduate University, and a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Pomona College.
This presentation is part of the Katharine Howard Miller Endowed Speakers Program at Scripps College. The series was established by Katharine Miller, a Scripps alumna from the class of 1955, and is a lasting legacy to her memory. The speakers program enables the College to bring to campus presenters in the area of entrepreneurship or the non-profit world.
