Scripps College to Present The Claremont Concert Orchestra and The Concert Choir

Scripps College’s department of music and the Joint Music Program of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges will present a spring performance by The Claremont Concert Orchestra and The Concert Choir on April 30, 2011, at 8:00p.m, and May 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m, at Scripps College’s Performing Arts Center, Garrison Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

The event will feature performances by David Cubek, assistant professor of music and the director of the Claremont Concert Orchestra, and Charles W. Kamm, associate professor of music and director of Choirs, Joint Music Program, as conductors. The orchestra and choir will perform Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 in B flat Major, Op. 38, Spring and Mozart’s Mass in C, KV 317, Coronation. Composed in 1841, Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 was the composer’s first work and reflects the romance of spring. Mozart’s Mass, composed in 1779, was nicknamed “Coronation” at the Imperial court in Vienna in the early nineteenth century and remains one of the composers most popular of his 17 extant settings of the Ordinary of the Mass.
