Xiamen University’s Professor Sheng Jia Lectures on “The American Revolution and Modern China”

Sheng Jia, visiting international scholar and professor of history at the Humanities College of Xiamen University, lectures on “The American Revolution and Modern China” at 12:00 p.m. on March 29 in Balch Auditorium, Scripps College. This event is free and open to the public.

Professor Jia received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1995 and has taught American intellectual history and the history of the American Revolution at Xiamen University since 2003. His weeklong visit is co-sponsored by the Scripps College history department, the American studies program, and the Global Initiatives at Scripps Team Committee.

“I’m delighted Professor Sheng Jia’s guest residency at Scripps College expands our collaboration,” said Hao Huang, professor of music. “He’s been very supportive of our Humanities Core program.”

Jia’s visit continues a relationship Scripps College has nurtured with Xiamen University. Both colleges have sponsored educational exchanges with one another, including faculty delegations from the music department in 2007 and 2008. This visit marks the first Xiamen visit since 2009.
