As part of the Brad and Mary Anne Blaine Faculty Lecture Series, David Claus, Robert B. Palmer Chair in Classical Studies, will present "Narcissus in Love: Reflections on a Literary Genealogy" on Monday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Dr. Claus is a longtime instructor in classical literature and languages, having previously taught for ten years at Yale University and then joining the Scripps faculty in 1979. The author of Toward the Soul: The Meaning of Psyche and Related Words Before Plato, Claus’ work in linguistic analysis has resulted in several published articles in academic journals such as the Chronicle of Higher Education. He has also served as guest lecturer at both the American Philological Association and the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) conferences.
Claus earned his master’s from UC Berkley and his doctorate from Yale University.
Former Scripps professor of history and current trustee Brad Blaine, along with his wife, Mary Anne, have generously underwritten this lecture series featuring outstanding Scripps faculty to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Scripps College.
