Scripps College Assistant Professor of Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies Martha Gonzalez writes an essay for Zócalo Public Square and the Smithsonian detailing her lifelong journey in music and social activism. The lead singer for the Grammy award-winning band Quetzal, Gonzalez this summer donated a stomp box and a pair of her shoes to the Smithsonian, which then catalogued these items as significant cultural artifacts.
