Music of Kenya at Scripps College

As part of the Brad and Mary Anne Blaine Faculty Lecture Series, William Lengefeld, professor of music, will present "The Beat Goes On: Music of Kenya" on Thursday, February 28, at noon in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons. This lecture is free and open to the public.

A music instructor with Scripps and the Claremont Graduate School since 1966, Professor Lengefeld has taught a variety of courses ranging from music literature to styles analysis to music theory history. His most recent research project included an extensive field study on the music of Kenya in Nairobi, Mombassa, and Voi. An accomplished violinist as well, Lengefeld frequently performs with the Claremont Concert Orchestra and with several Claremont-area chamber music ensembles. Lengefeld earned his master’s in music from Baylor University and holds a doctorate degree in philosophy from University of Iowa.

Former Scripps professor of history and current trustee Brad Blaine, along with his wife, Mary Anne, have generously underwritten this lecture series featuring outstanding Scripps faculty to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Scripps College.
