Karen Stanley, founder and co-chairperson of the Claremont Coalition Concerned with End-of-Life Issues, will give a lecture on the many degrees of abandonment and the importance of personal relationships on Wednesday, December 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons on the Scripps College campus. The Coalition for Compassionate Care is a statewide effort to engage the community to recognize end-of-life issues and improve care for the dying at local levels. In addition to serving as the director-at-large for the Oncology Nursing Society, Stanley serves as the faculty leader for the Oncology Nursing Today (TM) program on “Cancer as a Family Diagnosis: Supporting the Caregivers.” Since she retired from Kaiser Permanente, Southern California, she also serves as a consultant on cancer care, pain management, and end-of-life issues.
Stanley completed her undergraduate work in sociology at Wesleyan College, her nursing undergraduate work at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and her graduate work in oncology nursing at the University of California, San Francisco.
