Scripps College’s 2012 Resume Book: Rugged Economy Sparks Innovative Path to Connect Graduates With Employers

Scripps College’s Office of Career Planning & Resources (CP&R) launched the first issue of its resume book in time for 2012 Commencement. The digital publication, which flips pages like an actual book, was sent to more than 1,300 employers, the Scripps College alumnae community and to select members of the Scripps Association of Families.

“We have incredibly bright and talented young women who are graduating into a very tight and highly competitive economy. We turned to new technology and platforms to connect our accomplished undergraduates with employers and career networks,” said Vicki Klopsch, Scripps College’s director of CP&R.

Recruiters from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and Edward Jones, among others, already have contacted graduating seniors after reviewing the nearly 60 resumes listed in 2012 Resume Book.

Although other colleges and universities offer similar services, many display their resume books as a PDF file. The College’s resume book stands out because it allows a prospective employer to browse through the digital document as if it were a book. Members of CP&R recently showcased this new approach to an old idea at a local association for career service professionals.
