Scripps College Presents “Drawing the Line” Exhibition

The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College presents "Drawing the Line: Contemporary Drawings" from October 30 through December 19. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 6, from 7-9 p.m., and will include live music. "Drawing the Line" examines the vitality, complexity, and virtuosity of the act of drawing. Exhibiting over 50 drawings by established Southern California artists, "Drawing the Line" continues the Gallery’s tradition of focusing on the different artistic processes taught by the studio art faculty at Scripps. The gallery is located at 11th Street and Columbia Avenue on the Scripps College campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The exhibition features work by Southern California artists, including Sandow Birk, Alan Blizzard, Andrea Bowers, Hyunsook Cho, Steve Comba, Julia Couzens, Iris Gill, David Ligare, Mara Lonner, Nancy Macko, Melanie Manos, Margaret Morgan, Karen Numme, Jay Rivkin, Ron Rizk, Sharon Ryan, Francesco X. Siqueiros, David Smith, Coleen Sterritt, and Michael Woodcock. Curated by the Gallery’s registrar and collections manager, Kirk Delman, the show will present work that displays a wide emotional and intellectual range in a medium that has often been overlooked. The power, purity, and diversity of drawing is particularly compelling in today’s technologically driven world.
