Michael Deane Lamkin, the Bessie and Cecil Frankel Professor of Music, was named interim vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty at Scripps College for a one-year term, to begin July 1, 2009. Professor Lamkin has been a member of the Scripps faculty since 1977 and served as vice president and dean of faculty from 1997 to 2007. The current dean of faculty, Cecilia Conrad, returns to Pomona College in July after serving a two-year appointment.
“With his extensive knowledge of the academic program at Scripps, the College is fortunate to have Professor Lamkin serve in this position during this key transitional time,” said Interim President Fritz Weis; the College hopes to announce the selection of its seventh president sometime this spring. Lamkin will continue to serve as the conductor of the Claremont Colleges Orchestra during his appointment.
