President Lori Bettison-Varga has announced the appointment of Rebecca Lee as interim dean of students for Scripps College, effective July 1, 2010. Lee will replace Vice President and Dean of Students Debra Wood, who leaves her position after 12 years of service. Dean Wood will become chief student affairs officer at Northwestern University’s Qatar campus later this summer.
“We welcome Bekki Lee’s breadth of experience and lifelong commitment to enriching the lives of college students,” said Scripps College President Lori Bettison-Varga. “I know Bekki will be an effective advocate and counselor for students, and that she will encourage active communication among students and the larger Scripps College community. I am looking forward to having such a capable leader on my team.”
Lee comes to Scripps College with almost 30 years of experience in student development, with specific expertise in the areas of promoting and supporting diversity, career counseling, academic advising, and residential life.
“The mission of Scripps College resonates deeply with my own commitment to the development of young women as our future leaders,” said Lee. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to partner with staff, faculty, trustees, alumnae — and most important — students, to contribute to a campus environment of support, exploration, and growth.”
Lee was most recently associate dean of students at Amherst College, serving as assistant director of the career center and pre-law advisor. Prior to working at Amherst, Lee held positions in student affairs at Oberlin College, UC Davis, and University of Pennsylvania.
Lee received her MS in education and her BA in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
