President Lori Bettison-Varga has announced the appointment of Victoria A. Romero as vice president for enrollment at Scripps College. Romero comes to the College from Claremont McKenna College, where she served for the past 11 years as associate dean and more recently as director of admission. At Scripps College, she fills the position made vacant by Patricia F. Goldsmith, who left admission to become vice president for institutional advancement in July 2010. Romero’s appointment goes into effect February 7, 2011.
“Victoria has an enthusiasm for liberal arts education and a familiarity with The Claremont Colleges that will make her a critically important member of my senior administrative staff,” said Scripps College President, Lori Bettison-Varga. “Victoria and her admission team will help prospective students and their families understand the power of a Scripps College education, the rigor of our interdisciplinary curriculum, and the benefits of the Claremont Consortium.”
Romero has nearly 20 years in higher education admission. She brings to Scripps College extensive experience in recruiting underrepresented and international students, skillful use of technology to reach out to prospective students, and well-honed administrative and managerial skills.
“I am excited by the opportunity to share with students the rewards and advantages of a women’s college education,” says Romero. “Scripps College is clearly at an exciting time in its history, and I look forward to joining President Bettison-Varga’s team to maintain and enhance the College’s successes in admission and financial aid.”
Prior to her work at Claremont McKenna College, Romero held positions in admission at Grinnell College, the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, and Whitman College.
Romero received her BA in sociology from Whitman College.
