NASA’s longest serving female employee, Susan Finley, is a Scripps College alum whose pioneering work as a space engineering specialist is featured in a recent The New York Times article. Finley, 79, was part of the team responsible for monitoring spacecraft Juno’s recent arrival at planet Jupiter. In her five decades at NASA, Finley’s job has evolved from “computer” to software tester, to programmer, to subsystem engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) on some of the center’s most important space missions.
