Dance is the study of bodily movement in its many manifestations–as an expressive art form, as a key to the humanistic study of the world’s cultures, and as a means of gaining understanding and control over one’s self and environment. The Scripps Dance Program centers on the interdisciplinary study of dance and movement.

Among the thousands that gathered in downtown L.A.’s Pershing Square were a group of 12 students and faculty representing the W.M. Keck Science Department, who marched in support of continued federal funding for science as well as in celebration of the crucial role science plays in the advancement of our society.

A crowd of more than 400 from The Claremont Colleges (5C) community turned out for an evening of South Asian dance, music, and cultural appreciation at Sanskriti 2017. Now in its fifth year, Sanskriti is one of the largest 5C student-run performances, attracting both participants and audiences. This year’s Sanskriti, held on April 7, 2017, featured over 150 dancers from all 5Cs.

Students, faculty, and guest artists come together on April 21 and 22 for Scripps Dances, the Scripps College Dance Department’s annual spring concert. Presenting original dance pieces choreographed by students and faculty, this year’s program features many “abstract dances and socially minded works that explore the importance of belonging, intimacy, and connectivity,” says Assistant Professor of Dance Kevin Williamson, co-chair of the department.
