Virtual Community Thrives through SCORE
When Jenn Wells, assistant dean and director of Scripps Communities of Resources and Empowerment (SCORE) began her online graduate program in organizational change and leadership, the last skill she expected to walk away with was expertise in virtual educational delivery. “I’m applying not just the content of my graduate work to my role as director of SCORE, but how that content is delivered and applying it to keeping the mission and actions of SCORE alive during the coronavirus shelter-in-place orders,” she says.

Office of Black Student Affairs Celebrates 50 Years
The 2019-2020 academic year marks the 50th anniversary of the Office of Black Student Affairs (OBSA), the cultural center of The Claremont Colleges that supports students of African descent by providing opportunities for self-exploration, learning, and growth as well as affirming multiple identities that intersect with experiences of Blackness, including race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender identity and expression, and spirituality.

When Stephanie Nunez ’19 was just a sophomore, she petitioned to go abroad a year earlier than most Scripps students. She had recently completed her Core III course Foreign Language and Culture Teaching Clinic, taught by Professor of French Thierry Boucquey, and was eager to get a jump start on a cross-cultural, language-teaching experience.

The Scripps Experience: Women’s History Month: Programming Celebrates Leadership in Action
As a women’s institution, Scripps College constantly celebrates female leadership, empowerment, and achievement. Yet March, marked by Women’s History Month, calls for extra attention. Since the month’s designation in 1987, Scripps has honored women’s contributions to history and society through additional programming and events. This year, students had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., to attend a Women and Congress seminar; lunch with women composers who are breaking new ground; listen to Opal Tometi, CEO of Black Alliance for Just Immigration, speak about racial justice; and to learn about sustainability through a feminist lens through SCORE’s Sustainability Series.
