I firmly believe that every student who is admitted to Scripps deserves the opportunity to be part of this extraordinary community, and all current and future students deserve the chance to be part of a vibrant social landscape that prepares them for life after graduation. Through the Scripps Access Initiative, our community has an opportunity to move closer to a future where Scripps College is need-blind.
Scripps is committed to fulfilling the vision for inclusive excellence outlined in the Centennial Plan, the College’s strategic blueprint for the future. As one of the few women’s colleges in the US with a history of opening access to higher education for marginalized communities, the College is dedicated to dismantling socioeconomic barriers to entry. Doing so would ensure that Scripps remains among top-ranked private liberal arts colleges nationally and delivers on its promise of providing educational rigor in a diverse community of high-achieving scholars.
As president of the College, I’m excited to lead those efforts, and I am thrilled to relay the initiative’s progress to date. Thanks to the generosity of the Scripps community, the initiative has raised over $2.5 million of its 10-year goal of $15 million, and we are on course to meet our ambitious $10 million fundraising goal by the College’s centennial in 2026. Every dollar contributed to the initiative will support scholarships covering the total cost of attendance for 32 new high-achieving students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford Scripps. I am proud to report that the first students to receive scholarship support from the initiative will begin their educational journey at Scripps College this fall.
Gifts to the Scripps Access Initiative are truly transformational for the College, helping advance our commitment to inclusive student success and enabling students to thrive during their four years. We consider you, Scripps alums, parents, and friends, to be crucial partners in this effort. I hope you will join me in helping to fulfill the College’s promise to deliver the full Scripps experience for every student, regardless of financial need.
I am truly grateful for and humbled by your support of Scripps College.
