UNBLANKNESS: 101 Book Ideas
Warren Lehrer
February 22, 2014
9:30am-4:30pm
Lang 100
Using his illuminated novel A Life In Books as a springboard, Lehrer will work with each participant on developing their own book project ideas. The workshop begins with theater and writing exercises that help loosen body and mind. Participants then develop lists of possible book titles, refine the list, rework the most promising titles, then write catalog copy for a few of the books, sketch book cover ideas, and write an excerpt of one of the (possible) books. By developing book ideas laterally, writing titles, catalog copy, and then excerpts (of short story length), participants build confidence incrementally, leading them up to more long form writing/design/book projects. Everyone walks away with a collection of book ideas, and the essential ingredients of one book proposal.
